POSTDOC ONE: GC/FID/ECD and GC-MS based projects

Scope of Research
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the SA-MRC Microbial Water Quality Monitoring Centre at the University of Fort Hare, Alice, South Africa to anchor its GC/FID/ECD and GC-MS based projects on water and environmental pollutants. The incumbent should be able to produce high quality manuscripts for publication in accredited high impact factor journals and be capable of working both independently and in a team, and provide research advice to Masters and PhD candidates within the centre.
Minimum Requirements
- A PhD in Chemistry or related discipline obtained (preferably) in the past 5 years
- Should have an excellent understanding of the theory and practical aspects of advanced Gas Chromatographic analyses including GC/FID/ECD and GC-MS.
- Demonstrate expertise in water/environmental quality research.
- Ability to work independently, develop projects and undertake research.
- Excellent publication throughput.
- Fluent in written and spoken English
Application Details
- The value of the fellowship is R200,000.00 per annum.
- The duration of the fellowship is 12 months with a probationary period of 6 months and renewable for up to 2 years depending on productivity as approved by Centre Director.

Scope of Research
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the SA-MRC Microbial Water Quality Monitoring Centre at the University of Fort Hare, Alice, South Africa to anchor its Molecular Microbial Ecology Projects. The incumbent must be able well versed in molecular microbial ecology techniques including PFGE, DGGE, TGGE, cloning, Conventional and Real-Time PCR, and Phylogenetic analyses and bioinformatics tools. The incumbent should also be able to produce quality manuscripts for publication in accredited high impact factor journals and be capable of working both independently and in a team, and provide research advice to Masters and PhD candidates within the centre.
