One postdoctoral position is available at the Molecular Mycology laboratory, University of the Witwatersrand, in association with The Root (Pty) Ltd, to work in the field of yeast strain engineering to produce cannabinoids of medical relevance. The project will focus on construction of microbial strains for an industrial setting.

Conditions of the Post‐doctoral Research Fellowship:

The candidate should have a doctoral degree in microbiology or similar field with experience in metabolic engineering and heterologous protein production, and a publication record in suitable peer-reviewed journals. Previous experience with yeast is preferred. Candidates should have excellent oral and communication skills and be motivated to work independently. Candidates are expected to participate in supervision or co‐supervision of postgraduate students and contribute to efficient operation of the laboratory working environment. Furthermore, candidates are expected to contribute to preparation of research proposals, reports, and manuscripts.

Minimum requirements:

Applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents.
