RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Teaching and curriculum development of Microbiology modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
- Research at a competitive level, appropriate to the post level;
- The research supervision of postgraduate students;
- Participating in the Department's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement;
- Performing academic administration and other duties as determined by the line manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD-degree specialising in Microbiology or a closely related subject discipline;
- Experience in participating in the planning and guidance of research projects at a postgraduate level;
- A proven research track record and publications in lSI-rated journals, appropriate to the post level, with evident knowledge of advanced Microbiology.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Relevant language, communication and teaching skills.

- A track record indicative of the ability to raise own funding, collaborate as well as the drive to build research capacity and research networks.
The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 375 614 to R497 258 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
