RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use microbial community data including ribosomal tag sequences, shotgun metagenome sequence data, single cell whole-genome-shotgun sequence data and metatranscriptome sequence data from the Illumina platform.
- Train members of in the Microbiology Subject Group in applying these methods to appropriate research questions.
- Prepare manuscripts for publications.
- Maintain an accurate and detailed scientific logbook of methodologies as well as data generated.
- Provide periodic reports.
- Participate in group meetings and seminars.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Recent PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field
- Experience in using computational methods, databases of genomic information and methods of analysis of biological sequence data especially next-generation sequence data.
- Experience using PC, Mac and/or UNIX operating systems.
- Experience in using bioinformatics tools as well as analysing and interpreting the data sets.
- Experience in accurate record keeping and maintenance of data sets.
- A proven record demonstrating the ability to write manuscripts for publication and present data at conferences.
TERMS AND COMPENSATION:
Compensation will follow university guidelines. The initial appointment is for one year but could be extended for up to two extra years.
