Annual General Meeting (AGM), Council Nominations, and Bids for Hosting SASM2028

Dear members of the South African Society for Microbiology (SASM),

 

On behalf of the SASM Council, it is with great pleasure that I extend an invitation to you for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Thursday, 29 January 2026 in Makhanda.

 

The AGM is a vital opportunity for all members to actively participate in SASM’s governance, and your attendance and contributions will be highly valued. Please find attached the AGM Agenda.

 

Urgent action points for your consideration:

1. We invite nominations for the following vacant council member positions:

  • President: Nominations are sought for the position of President, the primary spokesperson for SASM.
  • Vice-President: Nominations are invited for the role of Vice-President to assist the President in their duties.
  • Treasurer: We are accepting nominations for the Treasurer position, responsible for SASM finances.
  • Additional Members: Nominations are welcome for additional council members to serve in various capacities.

 

2. Bids for Hosting the Biennial SASM Congress in 2028:

  • Submission of Proposals: Institutions are kindly requested to submit their bids for hosting the next Biennial SASM Congress.

Your participation in these matters is instrumental in shaping the future direction of our society. Together, we can continue to foster a vibrant and impactful community dedicated to advancing microbiology in South Africa.
