Postdoctoral Fellowship – Cryptococcal nitrogen metabolism

Scope of Research: The successful candidate will coordinate the research of four postgraduate students studying the nitrogen metabolism of pathogenic cryptococci and other basidiomycetous yeasts. It is expected from the successful candidate to; submit at least three research grant applications; and publish at least four peer-reviewed scientific articles per annum on the nitrogen metabolism of basidiomycetous yeasts. The yeasts include both clinically and industrially relevant species. Requirements:

1. PhD in Microbiology (must have graduated within the last five years).

2. Publication record on the effects of nutrient stress on cryptococcal metabolism and virulence factors.

3. Demonstrated ability to conduct scientific editing beyond own field of expertise

4. Demonstrated ability to submit articles, and revise submissions, on the websites of different reputable scientific journals.

5. At least two years’ experience in managing an internationally competitive research laboratory, including running expenses, equipment servicing, as well as postgraduate supervision.

6. Expertise in cell culture techniques and animal infection models.

7. Expertise in bioinformatic analysis.

8. Must have extensive knowledge on antifungal resistance mechanisms.
