The project focuses on understanding how malaria parasites manage cell stress. In particular, our group seeks to establish the role of heat shock proteins in the development and pathogenicity of malaria parasites.
The selected candidate will receive bursary support from the DFG, details of which will be communicated only to shortlisted candidates. The candidate is expected to register for a PhD at the University of Venda in 2016.
BACKGROUND OF PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES
- MSc degree in Biochemistry/Molecular biology/Microbiology or equivalence
- Malaria or infectious disease research background
- Cell culture techniques
- Molecular techniques (SDS-PAGE; Agarose electrophoresis, Western blotting)
- Recombinant protein expression and purification, Protein biochemistry/enzymology
