Be part of an exciting collaborative study involving regional and international collaboration between the University of Venda, Rhodes University (South Africa) and Phillips-Marburg University, Germany. The project is funded by the Germany Research Foundation (DFG) under the auspices of the Germany-Africa Collaboration in Infectology initiative.

The project focuses on understanding how malaria parasites manage cell stress. In particular, our group seeks to establish the role of heat shock proteins in the development and pathogenicity of malaria parasites.

T
he selected candidate will receive bursary support from the DFG, details of which will be communicated only to shortlisted candidates. The candidate is expected to register for a PhD at the University of Venda in 2016.

BACKGROUND OF PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES

 

  • MSc degree in Biochemistry/Molecular biology/Microbiology or equivalence
  • Malaria or infectious disease research background
  • Cell culture techniques
  • Molecular techniques (SDS-PAGE; Agarose electrophoresis, Western blotting)
  • Recombinant protein expression and purification, Protein biochemistry/enzymology
